　　佛经记载，夏历七月三十日(月小二十九日)为地藏菩萨圣诞日，传说也为金地藏成道日。历年，九华山僧侣都要在肉身殿举行重大活动，称“地藏法会”，诵《地藏菩萨本愿经》，守地藏肉身塔。法会一般历时七天(夏历七月三十至八月初六日)，之日设斋供众，广结良缘。法会期间，民间有“百子会(团)”等朝山进香。百子会(团)是外地香客为朝拜地藏菩萨道场而自动组织起来的一种会(团)，虔心斋食，然后担着香担，举旗敲锣鱼贯而行，结体入山，凡人数满百人即可组一会，称“百子会”。百子会设香首和副香首。朝山途中香首口诵“南无幽冥教主本尊赦罪地藏王菩萨”，余众接诵“阿弥陀佛”。

　　凡朝山之众均身着灰布青裤或围一黄色胸兜，上印“进山朝香”四字，一路上香客还给穷苦残疾人施舍钱物。他们白日徒步登山，沿途遇寺庙即烧香拜佛，入夜后除投宿外，都聚向肉身宝殿守地藏塔，携衣巾请盖“地藏利生宝印”。每逢地藏菩萨诞朝，僧众及香客于肉身塔诵经拜菩萨通霄达旦，“常见僧尼和信士一步1一步跪拜塔不止，求其超度亡灵，赦免罪孽，消灾延寿”。百子会人数要求不很严格，二、三十人朝拜九华也可称“百子会”或“小百子会”，逾二百人或近二百人可称“双百子会”。与此相应，各地还有类似会(团)朝山进香，如“万胜老会”、“香山胜会”、“同人老会”等。1978年以来，九华山佛教协会每年都举行“地藏法会”或“祈祷世界和平法会”，悬挂“南无大愿地藏王菩萨法会”飘幡。来山参加地藏法会的港澳同胞、海外侨胞、四众弟子及十方善男信女，逐年增多，同时也吸引了众多游客。
